These Files Are Now Public

In short: The case files go public. The Possession Case Files are a comic, fictional investigator’s casebook on The Possession’s site; Cathy’s own diary is on the site of The Haunting, and The Possession is booked through this site’s live calendar.

Thursday, 9.00 am. After five years of careful observation I have decided to make my files public. The world deserves to know. Noreen says the world deserves a rest. She typed them up anyway.

To the reader: I am Desmond Crouch, founder, president and sole member of the Northbridge Paranormal Society. These files follow the entity known as Cathy through three houses in three cities, on Lake Street, George Street and Collins Street. They are the most complete record in existence, as far as I know, because nobody else is keeping one.

You will not find here how to get out of her house. I have never been inside, and staff would not tell me if I asked, which I have, eleven times.

Footnote. I learn that the entity keeps a diary of her own, published on the other room’s site, in which she calls me ‘the Beeping Man’. I do not beep. The meter beeps. It is an important distinction and I would like it on the record.

— D. Crouch, Northbridge Paranormal Society (President, Treasurer and Members)

FAQ

What this file answers

What are The Possession Case Files?

A comic, invented casebook that Escape This writes in the voice of Desmond Crouch, a self-appointed paranormal investigator who has watched Cathy’s houses from the footpath since 2021 and been wrong about nearly everything. He logs The Possession’s openings in Northbridge, Sydney and Melbourne and quizzes teams on their way out. Safe for work, and no puzzle is given away.

Does Cathy keep her own account of the man outside?

She does. Cathy writes a diary on the site of The Haunting, the first chapter, and calls Desmond “the Beeping Man”. Many of her pages describe the same nights as his files, seen from the upstairs window instead of the footpath, without repeating a word, and neither one spoils The Possession.
