Friday, 8.00 pm. For years I have recorded a mist in Cathy’s houses. Teams come out smelling faintly of it and describe it hanging about their knees, lit red. I have called it ectoplasm in every file since 2021.
Tonight a member of staff, very kindly, told me it is theatrical smoke. It is in all three Possession houses, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne, and it is why they ask anyone with asthma or other breathing troubles to call before booking.
I have gone back through five years of files, crossed out ‘ectoplasm’ and written ‘theatrical smoke (they say)’. It took all evening. Noreen helped. She enjoyed it far more than was necessary.
For the record, the smoke does not explain the figure at the window. Nothing explains the figure at the window. I have stopped trying to explain it and started waving.
